Daniil Medvedev of Russia will shoot for a championship match appearance at the Halle Open against home favorite Alexander Zverev of Germany in the first semifinal match on Saturday.
Medvedev has remained scatheless in Halle following another straight-set win over Alex Michelsen of the United States 6-4 6-3. Medvedev, who also swept Daniel Altmaier 6-3 6-3 and Quentin Halys 6-2 7-5, never allowed Michelsen to create even a single breakpoint opportunity as he bombarded the American with 32 first-serve points, on top of 7 aces.
Zverev gets another chance to book a final appearance after staving off a testy challenge from Flavio Cobolli of Italy 6-4 7-6(6). Coming off a three-set slugfest against another Italian, Lorenzo Sonego, Zverev grinded out a close win by capturing key points of the match, especially in the second-set tiebreaker, where the German pounced on Cobolli’s miscues in the clutch.
